Amcor Packpyrus offers sustainability and shelf appeal for fresh-food packaging
Amcor Flexibles Packpyrus is a flexible packaging product line designed to give fresh food processors a sustainable packaging format.

Packpyrus is a thermoformable cellulose-based packaging solution for manufacturers of fresh food products. Because it offers an oxygen barrier, the product is suitable for pre-sliced products like meat or cheese.

Flexible options

The product is available in three different versions. Packpyrus Flexible is geared toward vacuum-pack base webs; Packpyrus Semi-Rigid and Packpyrus Rigid are intended for modified-atmosphere base webs.

According to the company, the Packpyrus Flexible and Packpyrus Rigid solutions offer various advantages over traditional cPA 80/PE 100 and APET/PE-EVOH-PE 300/50 solutions. All of the products offer light weight and use renewable fibers; as a result, they reportedly deliver a significant reduction in carbon footprint over the course of their lifecycle (up to 70%).

Recyclable product

The company reports that the French Committee for the Evaluation of Recyclability of Paper and Cardboard Packaging (CEREC) recently published an independent technical assessment for two of the Amcor Packpyrus formats. Packaging made from these Amcor Packpyrus materials is allowed to feature the 'Info Tri Point Vert' (waste-sorting Green Dot) pictogram, created by Eco Emballages to help encourage consumers sort their household waste for recycling.

The company reports that in addition to its environmental benefits, the Papyrus line also offers a natural look and feel that emulates kraft paper, helping increase shelf appeal.

Amcor Flexibles manufactures Packpyrus in a plant with ISO 14001 certification. Also Amcor is a member of SEDEX (Supplier Ethical Data Exchange) and AIM-PROGRESS (Programme for Responsible Sourcing).
