Equipment packs a punch at industry event
Produced by PMMI: The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, the event offers programming specifically for various food sectors. Tailored features include pavilions geared toward bakery companies, snack makers, confectionery producers and others.
Following are some of the PACK EXPO Las Vegas 2013 exhibitors displaying packaging machinery suited for food environments.
Robotic arms
Universal Robots will display its robot arms’ capabilities for processing and packaging environments. The variable force control feature reportedly lets the devices grip and handle objects of different size and flexibility, without crushing them.
The manufacturer, said to be easy to operate and deploy, is advanced enough to allow automation of delicate, precise manual tasks. Operators reprogram the arms via a touchscreen tablet control, or by grabbing the arm to “show” it the required path of movement.
Case sealer
Schneider Packaging Equipment Co. has released the SR5000WAT water-activated case sealer. It uses a servo-driven sensing head to measure box heights; the feature reportedly helps increase case throughput.
According to the manufacturer, the SRS5000WAT seals up to 25 cases per minute. It automatically folds all top flaps and applies recyclable, pilfer-resistant, water-activated tape to the case top and bottom.
Bag-in-box filler
The SureFill aseptic filler from Scholle Packaging is designed for aseptic filling of bag-in-box packaging. The machine is intended to give processing firms flexibility in choise of bag size and fitments.
The machine uses peroxide vapour to sterilize the fitment during processing. This feature is said to help ensure security of the product from production to consumption.
Tray former
The Bradman Lake HSS300 glue tray/carton former reportedly produces up to 300 cartons or trays per minutes. The company offers the machine as a standalone unit, or part of an integrated packaging line.
Users have the option of using the former to erect cartons and trays using hot-melt glue or four-corner lock. The reciprocating shuttle feed design is said to help facilitate a high degree of performance and ease of operation.
