The research firm’s ‘Product Pacesetters’ report tracked new product launches for 2013 and compiled total first-year dollar sales across multiple outlets. Last year saw 9,500 new brand launches hit US shelves and 190,000 unique produce codes created.
The Kellogg Company ranked third for its Special K Pastry Crisps, pulling in total year sales of $100.6m. The pastry snacks come in a range of flavors including blueberry, chocolate and brown sugar cinnamon with each bar 100 calories.
Frito-Lay’s Tostitos Cantina Tortilla Chips ranked fourth, with 2013 sales just behind Kellogg at $100.3m. Frito-Lay launched the snack in a tie-up with Tostitos branded dips to tap into the sharing segment.
Kellogg and Frito-Lay placed just behind two major yogurt brands - Yoplait Greek 100 in second with $135.1m sales and Dannon Light & Fit Greek up top with $144.9m in dollar sales.
Kellogg also placed again in the top 10 list with its Special K Flatbread Breakfast Sandwiches listed ninth based on 2013 dollar sales of $77.9m. The frozen morning snack products come in several variations, including sausage, egg and cheese and bacon, egg and cheese and can be microwaved in minutes.
