Paleo and gluten-free brand Mikey’s enters low-carb pizza crust category

Arizona-headquartered paleo and gluten-free bakery brand Mikey’s has launched its first pizza crust product as it continues to target low-carb consumers.

The new pizza crusts are made with almond and coconut flour and contain 222 calories per serving, three grams of saturated fat and 12 grams of total carbohydrates.

Sold in an 8.8-ounce box containing two round pizza crusts, they retail for $6.99 in most retailers across the US, as well as online at Amazon.com.

Labeled as “multi-attribute brand,” Mikey’s also manufactures three flavors of English muffins: Original, Toasted Onion and Cinnamon Raisin.

In addition to being paleo and gluten-free, all its products are free from grain, dairy, soy, as well as non-GMO.

“We have a focus on delivering wholesome serving sizes that are low calorie, low carbohydrate, and low glycemic,” Mikey’s CEO Michael Tierney told BakeryandSnacks.

Limited ingredients list

“With our limited ingredients you can enjoy Mikey’s products without the compromise or adding the typical additives, preservatives, and chemicals you find in most processed foods today.”

Mikey’s is anticipated to grow by more than 200% year on year by the end of 2016, said Tierney, added the company is targeting a total value of more than $4.5m for 2017.

The business is also developing several new products, including a sliced bread loaf and two varieties of muffin tops: lemon blueberry and double chocolate chip.

“The obvious audience is those who eat gluten free and or paleo diet. On a broader scope though, we are supporting the ever-growing amount of people looking to just eat better foods,” Tierney said.
