Armored Fresh Almond Milk American Slices
Armored Fresh Almond Milk American Slices

Armored Fresh – which drew attention with its plant-based cheese in 2022 – is ready for another round.

The company has honed its development and produced Almond Milk American Slices, featuring a soft and chewy texture.

The South Korean producer has paid exacting attention to the cheese's melting properties to improve its unnatural texture – one of the biggest challenges in the vegan cheese market. Melting properties – the degree to which cheese melts when heat is applied – has long been considered technically difficult to implement in the vegan industry.

The company launched the plant-based cheese at CES 2023 in Las Vegas in January, hot on the heels of its plant-based cheese cubes at CES 2022, which received a sensational response and currently sold at more than 200 stores in New York.

According to the producer, the cubes have been successful at completely overturning the preconceived notion that ‘vegan cheese is hard and breaks apart’.

“Knowing there’s a big demand for such alternative dairy products, we're pleased to offer this superior zero dairy cheese,” said founder and CEO Rudy Yoo.

“With big plans to expand into nationwide markets and European market opportunities, Armored Fresh is pleased to announce our next step into this journey of innovation. Be on the lookout for Armored Fresh cheese in your local store and shop."

Yoo hinted that products in the pipeline include a Cheddar, Pepper Jack and Monterey Jack.

Dantoy's bioplastic I'm Green baking set
Dantoy's bioplastic I'm Green baking set

The baking set is designed to get kids into the kitchen, have fun and learn about the environment at the same time.

The set features all the tools – made from bioplastic – that budding bakers will need to create delicious treats, including things like a rolling pin, cookie cutters, cupcake moulds and more. Whether it’s a birthday cake or a batch of cookies, the set is guaranteed to provide hours of creative fun while teaching kids about sustainability and eco-friendly living.

The best bit: Dantoy's ‘I'm Green’ PE bioplastic is made from at least 90% sugarcane ethanol, which is a renewable source of energy. This plastic is not only better for the environment, but it also has many other benefits such as being lightweight and durable. Furthermore, it can be recycled up to seven times and can be used to create products that are safe for children.

Plastic has been a part of our lives for many years, and while it has made life more convenient, it has also caused immense environmental damage. This is why the development of bioplastics is so important.

Bioplastics are made from renewable materials such as sugarcane, instead of crude oil, which makes them much more environmentally friendly. Specifically, the Danish company’s bioplastic not only reduces the number of fossil fuels used in production but also reduces the amount of waste generated after use. As sugarcane BioPlastic is used more, traditional plastic will hopefully become a thing of the past.

Dantoy’s offering also is dishwasher safe, stamped with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel (meaning it benefits health and the environment) and contains no toxins.

The Dantoy Bio-Toy 11-Piece Baking Line is available online for an RRP of £21.

Bako sourdough range
Bako sourdough range

Bako has launched a new selection of Sourdough Breads – part of its Select Finish range – to help bakers meet increased consumer demand.

During the pandemic, Brits turned to baking as a past time – with a YouGov poll revealing that 33% of all adults intended to bake sourdough, which highlights the popularity of this category. Sourdough is free from manufactured baker’s yeast, relying on natural airborne yeast to raise the loaf. This is a natural bread that is slowly fermented, resulting in a more digestible and nutritional loaf.

Bako’s Finish range includes products from sausage rolls, pies and pasties to confectionery – ready to thaw and serve, bake off or decorate; a quick and easy addition to bakery counters.

“The popularity of the sourdough loaf developed during lockdown, and since then we have seen increased demand for this tasty bake,” said Gemma Webstar, marketing manager for Bako.

“Our bakers regularly report sourdough is becoming one of their most popular products instores, so we’re delighted that we can now offer this tasty bake.

“The Sourdough’s popularity comes from taste and texture and the appealing rustic appearance of the hand-crafted bake, containing natural bursts and contrasting dark crusts. Now with the Bako sourdough, available as a frozen product to thaw and serve, it is also a convenient option for our customers.”

The range come in a variety of 8/12-pack sizes requiring bakers to simply thaw and serve, and flavours available include white, multi-seed, and 3 cheese & jalapeno loaves, plus a cheese and onion sourdough baguette.

“After a refresh in the oven, you would never know that they had been frozen and thawed,” added Bako’s tech baker Claire Powell.

“The sourdough has a fabulous aroma, a crispy outer and a lovely interior structure. They are a great addition to the BAKO range and are of the highest quality.”
