Comedian Iain Stirling has partnered with the Kellogg’s snack brand to search for one lucky individual who will be transformed into a non-playable character (NPC) in a video game and be paid £20,000 for the privilege.

The once-in-a-lifetime opportunity offers one fan the chance to appear as a Pringles vending machine refiller, busy at work stacking Pringles into the world of Train Sim World 2, available with the Xbox Game Pass.

That’s virtually; in reality, there’s no real work involved, but the lucky candidate will still be paid $20,000 for their participation.

Get creative

In his brand ambassador role, Stirling – a keen gamer himself – will be putting his expert match-making wit to good use, kicking off the search for the Mind Popping position.

“We now live in a world where you can get paid to work in a video game as a Pringles vending machine re-filler NPC!” said Stirling.

“My new role is to encourage people to get involved, be creative and apply for this once in a lifetime role.”

The opportunity is open to residents in the UK, France and Germany between 20 June and 6 July, after which Pringles will randomly select 50 candidates to go through to the shortlist, where their application will then be judged on creativity, originality and rationale why they will make the best Pringles vending machine refiller NPC.

“It’s important to plan and prepare for this role of a lifetime and I’m hoping my match-making wit inspires people to get involved. I am devastated I can’t apply,” added Stirling.

After much deliberation and head-scratching, the shortlist will be filtered down to produce one jammy applicant, whose likeness will be virtually reproduced and 3D modelled to appear in Train Sim World 2 from September.

He/she/they will receive £20,000/€ equivalent in cash to have their face immortalised, while one lucky runner-up will receive a customised Pringles Xbox Series S.

Stay in the game

“Iain knows the lengths people will go to become famous in the real world, and we hope he’ll help us find someone who wants to become famous in the virtual world,” said Aisling O’Hara, European marketing manager at Pringles.

“We’re looking forward to seeing the entries – it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and we want people to get as creative as possible with their applications. Who wouldn’t want to Stay in the Game and get paid?”
