With the pandemic resulting in weight gain for many, Kamut International is taking the opportunity to highlight the benefits that its khorasan wheat can add.

It is a natural response for many people to turn to food for comfort in times of stress and anxiety, however, a study from JAMA Network found the pandemic has resulted in many piling on an additional 1.5 pounds of weight per month while sheltering in place.

Now, as conditions improve and life returns to ‘normal’, people are keen to shift those unwanted pounds.

“There’s going to be a big adjustment to the ‘new normal’, which will require a shift in the mindset of how we address weight challenges,” said registered dietitian Jessica Cording, MS, RD.

“The food we eat determines how we feel, and by establishing healthy practices we are setting ourselves on the road to achieving a more positive approach to making good food choices.”

Antioxidant-packing ancient grain

To help consumers get back their beach bodies, Kamut International is stressing the importance of incorporating organic grains in the daily diet and advices simply swapping modern wheat products with those made with ancient wheat like Kamut Brand khorasan wheat.

Scientific studies have demonstrated ancient wheat varieties exhibit a higher nutraceutical value than modern varieties. Further clinical studies have also found the substitution of modern wheat products with ancient wheat products improved metabolic, oxidative and inflammatory profiles of both healthy volunteers and patients suffering from chronic ailments like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, irritable bowel and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Kamut Brand khorasan wheat is an ancient and organic grain that has proven to have antioxidant properties that protect against oxidative stress.

Additionally, Kamut Brand khorasan wheat is low in fat, cholesterol-free and high in protein. According to the USDA FoodData Central database, a 100g serving of Kamut Brand wheat contains over 14.5g of protein, which is higher than the protein content of a similar portion of quinoa.

The wheat is also high in other essential nutrients, including dietary fibre, manganese, magnesium and niacin.

Kamut guarantees the wheat has never been hybridised or genetically modified and is always organically grown. It is also prized for its sweet nutty-buttery taste and firm texture and is suitable for use in baked goods, biscuits, cereals, snacks, beer and green foods.

“You need healthy foods in your weight-management programme and including nutritional whole grains like Kamut Brand wheat that are satiating and flavourful, as well as keeping your portions in check is a great path to healthy food management,” added Cording.
