The founders of a gut health education startup have taken their quest to improve consumer knowledge one step further with the launch of their own fibre-full snack bars.

The Gut Stuff founders, twins Lisa and Alana MacFarlane, hope their new Good Fibrations snack bars will aid their mission to educate consumers at grassroots level.

Available from their website's 'shop' from November 2020, the bars are just the debut for a full gut health focused product pipeline to roll out over the next year.

The four-strong range contain 10g of fibre each – a third of the recommended daily intake - thanks to ingredients lists packed with fruit, nuts, seeds, chicory root fibre, and inulin.

Speaking about the launch, Lisa said: “This has been a long time in the making. The product development was a long process as we didn’t want to compromise on the ingredients but we also wanted to make sure the price point was accessible to as many people as possible.

"Our brand is all about making gut health an accessible subject for everyone so this is another way that we aim to build awareness and help people look after their gut health in a really simple way," adds Lisa.

“It’s also another vehicle for spreading the message of the importance of gut health. We will encourage people to use these bars as an addition to a repertoire of gut health friendly recipes.”

The bars join a host of other gut health focused products on The Gut Stuff’s e-commerce page.

But the bars aren’t the only new addition to the brand this year. The twins have just finished writing a book, with the help of 18 experts in the gut microbiome field, called “The Gut Stuff: An empowering guide to your gut and its microbes”.

Lisa explains: “It was an amazing collaborative process which has come together so quickly, since the start of lockdown. Everyone wrote their own chapter but worked very closely to make sure we pulled together all the most fascinating areas of microbiome science.”

The book, which goes on sales in January, went to the number one spot for nutrition pre-release orders within 12 hours of pre-order release.

“We didn’t want it to be like an expensive coffee table book with recipes involving ingredients you’ve never heard of. We wanted to create a pop culture version of the science.

“It includes specialists in this space providing in-depth knowledge from their fields, including: myth busting, alcohol and the gut, low FODMAP diets, social political context, the skin-gut axis, the new horizons. Tim Spector did an amazing foreword for it too. We could have easily written five books with all the information we received!”

The new launches don’t end there. This year will also see the launch of The Gut Stuff All in One Fermentation Kits, Gut Planning Kit, and ‘Gut Started’ Gift Boxes, which the business women hope will fulfil a demand for health focused gifts this Christmas.
