Aligned with the exploding growth in China’s bakery sector, Bakery China has grown from relatively small beginnings in 1997 to an enormous trade event occupying more than 200,000m2 of the Shanghai New International Expo Center in China.

According to Christine Jiang, head of international sales and marketing for the event – one of three annual shows organized by the China Association of Bakery & Confectionery Industry – the sector is growing much faster (11.93% CGAR between 2011 and 2016) than the country’s GDP (1.78% from 2010 until 2019).

The show – held on May 9-12 – occupied all the 17 halls of SNIEC, featuring over 2,200 exhibitors and more than 240,000 visitors from 110 countries and regions to network.

It also attracted a wealth of global corporations – including Rich Products Corporation, Glanbia, Bridor, AB Mauri, Cargill and many others – to showcase their products and services to the burgeoning Chinese bakery market.

We chat to Jiang to find out more about the show and the market.
