Crisp Sensation, food coating systems, has developed a crispy coating for frozen and chilled premium foods.

Thanks to the development, the company says it will soon be able to offer microwaveable crumb-coated snacks as well as for the oven, airfryer, Merrychef and Turbochef.

Six month shelf life

The patent-pending technology is delivered as a result of moisture control. If the product is kept in a freezer for up to six months, it will retain its crispy coating with succulent core when cooked in the microwave.

"We are proud about our technological breakthrough. Microwavable snacks that are crispy and juicy have been much anticipated by the market. With our newly filed patent, we can make this a reality soon,” said Lucas Hendrikse, CEO, Crisp Sensation.

The coating system is suitable for products that can be crumb coated, such as chicken, cheese and sweet fillings.

"The patent-pending technology will enable snack manufacturers to create a variety of snacking options, all of which can be microwaved without a crisping or grill function, and ready to eat in two minutes," a Crisp Sensation spokesman said.

It said the product is suitable for households as well as kiosks, food trucks and service stations.

ZeroFry

"Snack manufacturers can appeal to completely new markets with products that are perfect in both taste and texture," he added.

The company has a long history of filing patents on coating systems, with multiple patents already granted. Some of the most important developments have been innovative moisture barriers and water binding technologies.

For example, it recently launched ZeroFry, allowing manufacturers to produce crispy crumb coated snacks for oven or airfryer without pre-frying or deep-frying.
