The date was officially registered by Thomas’ in Chase’s Calendar of Events, considered to be the most comprehensive and authoritative reference available on special events, holidays, federal and state observances and historic anniversaries in the US since it was first published in 1957.
“Choosing between celebrating bagels and pizza felt like a decision that no carb-lover should ever have to make,” said Richard Link, senior marketing director of Thomas’.
“We’re grateful to our fans for rallying behind this decision and to Chase’s Calendar of Events for certifying January 15 as our official date.”
Bagel celebrations
The Bimbo Bakeries USA-owned brand will celebrate the day with a larger-than-life Thomas’ toaster that consumers can ‘pop’ out of, as well as a giant bagel wall at its headquarters in Philadelphia, where fans can snap a photo.
The brand is also giving away free bagels for a year to a lucky group of fans on its Facebook page on January 15.
Thomas’ dates back to 1880 when Samuel Bath Thomas created his griddle-baked Nooks and Crannies English Muffin.
The company has since added bagels and breakfast breads, including a line of swirl breads, to its breakfast offerings.
Today, the brand sells the number one English Muffin and the number one grocery bagel in the US.
