Guardian Toco 30P comes in powder form, which gives cereal manufacturers greater ease in incorporating the antioxidant into their products than a liquid tocopherol.
DuPont said the powdered format will also alleviate manufacturing concerns such as homogenous distribution, handling, labor-intensive clean up and application equipment costs and limitations.
“Guardian Toco 30P simplifies the process by incorporating antioxidants into the dry mix and eliminates the need for additional equipment and clean up,” said Luping Ning, group manager of bars, confections snacks and cereals.
“This new antioxidant solution in a cost-effective powder form helps to reduce expenses while improving productivity.”

Additionally, shelf life studies found 1000ppm of Guardian Toco 30P significantly inhibit oxidation of cereals, while 1200ppm and 1500ppm levels reduce “cardboard” and “painty” flavor attributes, and keeps cereals fresh for up to 12 weeks.
“Tocopherols enable a consumer-friendly ingredient declaration compared to synthetic antioxidants,” added Ning.
“Now cereal and granola brands have a solution that contributes to a positive eating experience by maintaining cereal freshness with greater consumer acceptance, all while contributing to the bottom line.”
