The tray is suitable for noodles, pasta, stir-fry or rice dishes up to 500ml, fully recyclable, biodegradable, and compostable within 90 days, to EN 13432 certification.
Colpac says the Zest range was developed in response to growing demand from food service operators looking for a ‘multitude of options’ in their packaging such as an eye-catching design, keeping a product fresh, to being recyclable and serving the food-to-go trend.
The mono-material range is created from wood pulp. It is not laminated and includes products in printed Kraft effect board for a natural look.
It is heat resistant to 210°C/410°F in an oven or microwave and the packaging can be customized, depicting the food service operator’s brand message, ingredients, with a label or sleeve.
“As customers gauge the freshness of a product from its appearance, packaging, particularly within the ‘food to go’ arena, needs to offer excellent visibility,” Colpac said in a statement.
“Zest features a recyclable ‘window’ which is made from acetate, a film produced from wood pulp. The acetate doesn’t need to be separated from the paperboard so the entire pack can be put in the composting bin as a single unit.”
