‘Protein of the Future’: ADM’s Nutriance makes its debut
The concentrate, which was recognized as a ‘Protein of the Future’ at the French Innovation Awards at Fi (Food ingredients) Europe 2015, made its debut at Fi Europe 2017 this week (November 28-30), in Germany.
Sports & nutrition sector
Lutz Guderjahn, MD, Corn, Europe at ADM, said previously, incorporating high levels of protein and glutamine into food and beverages was difficult to achieve because of its taste and texture but Nutriance overcomes this challenge.
It claims Nutriance is ideal for the sports and senior nutrition markets because it contains 85% protein, has a high glutamine content, and is good for digestibility.
Guderjahn said ADM is continually looking to expand its ‘ingredient toolbox’, so its customers can create food and beverage products that will appeal to today’s health-conscious consumer.
“Nutriance is a source of branched chain amino acids (BCAAs), ideal for developers looking to reach the growing number of active or elderly consumers choosing to take a more holistic approach to their health,” he added.
“Whether they are following a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle, or looking for natural positioning, this hydrolyzed wheat-sourced protein concentrate ticks all the boxes."
Neutral taste
Nutriance has a neutral taste and creamy color and can be added to beverages, bars, biscuits, cakes or meal replacements.
BakeryandSnacks reported last year hydrolysed wheat protein has muscle maintenance properties that compare favourably to whey protein in a Tereos-funded study with researchers from the University of Maastricht.
It found older men who consumed a larger dose of wheat protein saw notable gains in muscle size when the wheat protein hydrolysate contained the same amount of amino acid leucine as whey protein.
