The cakes, which are ready to serve, are cooked in the container and then sealed, taking out the need for a cold chain, freezers or defrosting by the consumer.
One-year shelf life
The cake is always at ambient temperature, has a one-year shelf life and contains no artificial preservatives.
Thanks to the packaging, Bäckerei Stiebling says it is expanding into new geographical markets, including the US.
Steffen Stiebling, managing director, Bäckerei Stiebling, said Cakees is a modern and mobile cake for any occasion, offering different traditional recipes.
“Due to the characteristics of these alufoil containers, which are resistant to the baking process and sealable, the product can be sealed airtight instantly after the baking process,” he said.
“This gave us the opportunity to offer the consumer a secure, tasty and hygienic product thanks to its excellent barrier properties.”
The container and lid combination was recognised by judges in the Alufoil Trophy 2017 awards earlier this year in the Product Protection category.
Natural ingredients
“This attractive container system offered the client many options to make the product consumer friendly,” said Guido Schmitz, director, Packaging Design Consumer Health, Bayer, who led the judging panel.
“The lack of preservatives, natural ingredients and extended shelf life are big advantages in today’s market. This is a packaging of high quality.”
He added the printed cardboard sleeve, with its defined openings, means the silver aluminium container is partly visible, so increasing the value perception of the product on the shelf.
The Alufoil Trophy is organised by the European Aluminium Foil Association. There are five categories – Consumer Convenience, Marketing + Design, Product Protection, Resource Efficiency and Technical Innovation. Judges also gave an award for Application Innovation.
