Needham Coding to sell own-brand CIJ printers for first time

Needham Coding, part of The Needham Group, has launched its own-brand of continuous ink jet (CIJ) printers to drive its growth strategy, having been previously recognized as a distributor of coding and marking equipment.

The non-contact ‘N’ series printers come in four models; N16, N16 Plus, N25 and N32, and can print bar codes, batch numbers, best before, sell-by and expiration dates, as well as logos and graphics, directly onto uneven or flexible substrates like glass, plastics, paper, metal and rubber.

N16 is designed for basic, entry level applications printing one or two lines of text, barcodes and graphics, while the N32 is for high speed applications printing up to five lines of text, barcode and graphics.

Aled Ellis, MD, The Needham Group, said the N series has been well received in the UK by both existing and new customers.

By utilizing our own ink technology, courtesy of our sister company Needham Inks, we can offer a complete package for our customers based on print performance, reliability and commercial attractiveness,” he said.

We now have a CIJ printer to offer internationally via our worldwide network of ink distributors and it is through this export activity where we expect significant growth over the coming months.”

Global growth objectives

Ellis added the decision to sell its own-brand CIJ printers was a natural next step for the business and is the first in a series of 'exciting initiatives' to meet global growth objectives.

It also ties in with its sister business, Needham Inks, which develops and manufactures inks distributed through its global network.

The ‘N’ series is set to be a game-changer both for existing customers and previously untapped business. We are confident the printers will meet the efficiency requirements of any production environment with the capability to print anything and marking and coding everything,” said Ellis.

The N Series CIJ inkjet printers include; character printing from 0.6mm to 19mm; a Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF) of 40,000 operating hours; multi-national character sets, multiple languages and Unicode character printing; Trupoint print quality and CleanStart technology.

As a non-contact print operation the ink is ‘thrown’ from the printhead at a distance of 12mm to 50mm and can print a single line of text at speeds exceeding 600m/minute, two lines over 200m/minute and three or four lines of print at 100m/minute.
