Comas showcases bakery processing line following GEA aquisition

GEA took the opportunity to showcase machinery from its newly acquired company Comas, at Cibus Tec 2016.

GEA moved into the growing cake and pastry sector of the food industry and created a Bakery Experience Center (BEC) in Torrebelvicino, Italy, last year.

Cakes, pies, cookies

Emmanuel Faccin, area sales manager, Comas, GEA, told BakeryandSnacks, Comas has been integrated into the ‘Solutions’ Business Area of GEA. For example, GEA’s Powder Handling, Freezer and cooling technology complements Comas's processes.

“Comas supplies machinery and complete processing lines for the bakery sector such as industrial processing equipment to produce a high capacity of cakes, pies, cookies, layer cakes and pastry,” he said.

BEC will test recipes and processes on behalf of customers, which includes bakery production equipment such as mixers, depositors, filling machines, pizza topping machines, ovens and packaging technology.

Talking about the acquisition, Lars Priess, executive vice president, Food Applications, GEA Process Engineering, said at the time, GEA was attracted to Comas because it is a well-known Italian supplier of lines for cake production with synergies on both the customer and technology side.
