Machinery for snack packing applications will be on display at the firm’s Snacks Demonstration area at its UK manufacturing headquarters in Woodgate, Birmingham, from November 17-27.
Crisps, salt sticks & extruded snacks
Torsten Giese, marketing manager, PR & Exhibitions, Ishida Europe, told BakeryandSnacks customers will be able to see the production lines in operation, handling a variety of products including crisps, salt sticks and extruded snacks.
“Ishida has held a number of open days in recent years, targeted at specific sectors of the food industry. This one is especially for snacks manufacturers, as it showcases the range of equipment that the company offers for snacks packing,” he said.
“Different snacks manufacturers have different requirements in terms of product handling and packing requirements, and while some visitors may be looking for new weighing or bagging equipment, others may have a need for quality control or end of line technology.”
Among the highlights will be a fully automated case packing system, incorporating integrated seal tester and checkweigher. The twin delta-robot case packer includes an integrated case erector and full product cookbook functionality to switch between case patterns and pack sizes.
It allows two systems to be installed side-by-side and aligned with an Ishida twin weigher/bagmaker combination. Positioned on 850mm centres, the case packer can achieve a packing capability of up to 150bpm per side.
Weighing & bagging systems for special promotions
Also on display will be special insertion tools that can be incorporated into Ishida weighing and bagging systems for special promotions. The Banner Device enables a promotional message to be applied to a pack, meaning existing packaging can be used for the duration of a promotion without the need for new artwork to be prepared.
The Token Inserter and Pot Inserter are able to place free gifts and an accompanying dip or sauce directly into the bag.
Ishida’s advanced weigher and bagmaker combinations will include an 18-head multihead weigher from its RV series operating in twin mode, filling potato crisps into two Ishida Atlas bagmakers. It will be performing at up to 120 packs per minute per side. A 16-head Sticks weigher will be installed above an Atlas bagmaker featuring ultrasonic technology. Also on display will be Ishida’s entry-level First Range weigher/bagmaker combination.
There will be a bespoke line for flavoured sticks, and Ishida’s recently launched high speed but gentle handling salt-stick packing system.
Ishida Expert software
Giese added, its automated case packing system, incorporates an integrated seal tester and checkweigher; and special insertion tools that can be incorporated into its weighing and bagging systems for special promotions.
“Ishida held its first Snacks Open House in 2013 which saw 50 attendees. The company has held a number of sector-specific Open Days over the past two years, the most recent one was for meat & poultry earlier this year,” he said.
The company will demonstrate its Ishida Expert software, which is an interactive learning tool for individual operators and technicians carried out remotely on a customer’s site.
It includes training on equipment set up, operations and maintenance to optimise overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
Other software support for snacks installations include the company’s iTPS, linking the operation of bagmakers with mulithead weighers, throat metal detectors, printers, seal testers and checkweighers and its Ishida Data Capture System (IDCS II), that captures data from every pack that passes across an Ishida checkweigher to monitor packing line performance.
