Cavanna Packaging founder dies after long illness

Mario Cavanna, the founder and president of Cavanna Packaging, in Italy, has died aged 85 after a long illness.

The company which packages biscuits, chocolate, breakfast foods, sweets, snacks, and cheese, was known for being one of the first firms in Italy to use flowpack packaging for food and non-food products.

Cavanna was also involved in many industry groups, including chairman of AIN (Industrial Association of Novara), VP of FederPiedmont (Confindustry), VP of the Foreign Centre of the Piedmont Chamber of Commerce, and VP of UCIMA (Italian Association of Automatic Packing and Packaging Machinery Manufacturers).

Riccardo Cavanna and Alessandra Cavanna, both CEOs of Cavanna Packaging, will continue to run the company on their father’s behalf.

It is a sad moment for us but following the death of our father we will continue to follow by his example to give us the strength to look ahead. Our family remains at the helm of the company and will become strong and consistent facing the future even with greater strength and resolution,” the family said in a statement.
