Dutch company applies for world patent on egg carton packaging you can play with

Dutch company, Eggs Posure, has developed packaging you can play with for the egg industry and has applied for a world patent with The Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), which protects an invention in 148 countries across the world.

Founded by the Dutch Twinpack and Danish food producer, Hedegaard Foods, and headed up by CEO, Jacco Wagelaar, the firm has launched a carton called Eggyplay, which can carry up to eight eggs and afterwards can be turned into building bocks.

The injection-moulded cartons are made out of polyptopylene and come in four colours ; magenta, yellow, cyan and green and the Eggyplay box design is registered and protected by OHIM, (the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market) which covers all 28 member states in the European Union.

Mette Due Andersen, marketing manager, Hedegaard Foods, said before being used as a toy the boxes must be washed in a dishwater at a minimum temperature of 65°C to reduce risk of bacterial contamination.

Our Eggyplay cartons are dishwasher-proof and resistant to repeated exposure to high temperatures, moisture and detergents,” she said.

We made the decision to use Verstraete IML’s dishwasher-proof IML labels and the labels are produced with dishwasher-proof inks and a special layer of varnish.”

The egg cartons, which carry a CE mark  are 100% recyclable and weigh less than a traditional egg carton and can be stacked for transportation.

Eggs Posure was founded in 2014 and develops, produces, and sells packaging concepts to the egg industry. The vision behind the company is to add extra value to the egg category for retailers and consumers alike. The ambition is to achieve a double-digit annual turnover within five years.
