Klüber Lubrication designs oil for overhead conveyors in meat

Klüber Lubrication has developed Klüberfood NH1 CX 4-220 oil, specially designed for overhead conveyors in the meat industry, based on a combination of an adhesive synthetic oil with other fluids, allowing oil to penetrate machinery chains without drip off.

Both Klüberfood NH1 CX 4-220 and a number of other NH1 chain oils will be exhibited at Anuga FoodTec, in Cologne, Germany, this month.

Chains are critical elements in food processing

Aldemir Oliveira, global market manager, food, Klüber Lubrication told FoodProductionDaily, chains are critical elements in most food processing areas, as they are subjected to similar operating conditions like gearboxes and bearings.

There are also chains operating at high or very low temperatures which require special lubricants and special types of chains, like the overhead conveyors in the meat industry,” he said.

Klüberfood NH1 CH 2 Plus series is designed for chains operating at high temperatures up to 250°C, they are used in bakery oven, shrink wrapping machines, aluminium tubes production, eggs and fruits packing material

In the can manufacturing industry an additional challenge for a chain oil is to meet the high speed requirement, and the different viscosities in the Klüberfood NH1 CH2 Plus series are suitable to meet these standards.”

KlüberEfficiencySupport

KlüberEfficiencySupport includes services like plant lube chart generation, lubricant analysis and training, and support to increase energy efficiency for sustainable production.

In addition to the customized trainings we deliver to customers in their location, periodically we do open house training program at our headquarters in Munich,” added Oliveira.

Depending on the response we schedule as many training sessions as needed. This kind of training is beneficial as it gives a good overview on importance of lubrication, and the difference it could make to the overall health of the machinery

Usually people from the production, maintenance and quality benefit the most out of these training programs.”

Synthetic high viscosity base oils

According to Oliveira the firm’s special greases Klüberfood NH1 94 series combines calcium complex thickener with synthetic high viscosity base oils, which protects bearings under very high load conditions.

Despite the high viscosity, the consistency of the grease is adjusted to the need of the centralized lubrication system and Klüberoil 4 UH1 N series is already meeting the industry standard.

Klüber Lubrication is closely working with gearbox manufactures to understand the emerging trends and to anticipate further needs,” added Oliveira.

Products like its Paraliq GTE 703 is used and recommended by beverage OEMs for the lubrication of bearings and seals in filling installations.

Almost all leading beverage manufactures in the world use and recommend Paraliq GTE 703. The application demands the lubricant to be compatible with seals and to meet drinking water standards, in addition to food safety,” said Oliveira.

Complete stoppage of the machine

Any failure in this application will lead to a complete stoppage of the machine, which no company can afford.”

Klüber Lubrication will also be exhibiting a range of cartridges for its Klübermaticautomatic lubricant dispensers, to avoid overlubrication at AnugaFoodTec 2015 in Cologne (March 24-27).

Klübermatic is a fairly simple design to dispense the right amount of grease at right intervals, thereby avoiding over or under lubrication,” said Oliveira.

This would contribute to the overall maintenance efficiency and it’s a convenient way of managing lubrication tasks. It helps in maintaining clean operating conditions by avoiding grease spillage or oil leakages

Overlubrication leads to increased internal friction, which in turn could promote heat build up, contribute to wear and fast degradation of the lubricant. When too much lubricant is used, the excess coming out of the lubrication point could also be a reason for contamination

Bearings are more vulnerable to failures due to over lubrication at high speeds than at lower speeds.”

Klüber Lubrication is a member of EHEDG (European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group).

As the OEM technology has evolved for the last few years, so have requirements for lubricants,” added Oliveira.

EHEDG offers a very good platform to collaborate with OEMs and be associated with them from the design stage to improve hygienic requirements.”
