Fletchers launches 50:50 sliced bread for foodservice

Fletchers Group of Bakeries has launched a half-white, half-brown sliced bread under its Kara Brand to the UK’s out-of-home market.

The company said it responded to a 20% increase in retail market demand from younger adults for 50:50 bread varieties.

The frozen sliced bread that blends wholegrain and white flours can be defrosted and used immediately by foodservice outlets.

Chris Haddy, head of foodservice at Fletchers Group, said the product tapped into an established trend towards healthier breads which still carry a white bread flavor.

“Our Half & Half bread has been extensively researched prior to manufacture to deliver a product which matches consumer likes. This includes reduced bitterness, increased sweetness and the texture of a white bread, but it also contains no hydrogenated fats or preservatives,” he said.
