Kliklok International wins repeat business with frozen food manufacturer

Kliklok International has won repeat business with frozen food manufacturer Jütro Tiefkünlkost to install a second Certiwrap C150 machine, 10 years after installing the first one in Jessen, Germany.

C150 will be used to pack ready meal bowls at a rate of 150 per minute, with single and twin compartments, in a full-length wraparound sleeve with tapered sides and centre glue seam.

Food safety regulation

Michelle Newman, sales and marketing manager, Kliklok International, told FoodProductionDaily, C150 was launched about 12 years ago but it has had a number of design changes according to updated food regulation safety features.

Chilled food containers such as trays, ready meals, pots and yoghurt move through the machine and an open-ended sleeve drops down and wraps around the product and they are glued underneath,” she said.

With the built-in features the machine can pack a variety of shapes and sizes from oval and round to rectangular.

"The technology has more versatility, which can adapt to different pack configurations such as single or multi-packs of yoghurt and the carton designs can be different such as full wraps where the whole product is covered, windows in cartons, gusseted cartons, or sleeves that can stand up on the shelf for more visibility.

When a product passes through the machine it is wrapped and guided individually for a more gentle transfer avoiding any damage.”

For Jütro a 'Smartbelt' system was fitted to enable a smooth, timed transfer process prior to sleeving.

Ralf Schuhmann, production manager, Jütro Tiefkühlkost, said he approached the Bristol-based company again because the firm was looking to increase the capacity of the plant.

The installation and commissioning of both machines ran very smoothly and Kliklok were able to improve their delivery time to meet our deadline," he said.

"Our first Certiwrap C150 machine is still fully functional 10 years later, thanks to the quality of the engineering and service support provided by Kliklok.

Newman added Kliklok is now launching its Certiwrap Elite wraparound cartoning system, which is designed to handle more complex meal trays, tubs or pot shapes – individually, in multi-packs or layered at the PPMA Show 2014 (Sept 30-Oct 2) at the NEC, Birmingham.

PackML version 3

She said Elite adapts to different pack styles such as full sleeves, wraparound, gusseted packs and upright shelf-ready display-style cartons.

It features a choice of twin or triple arm carton feeder to improve handling and is designed to increase throughput rates on high-speed lines, with packaging speeds of up to 300 cartons per minute.

The operator interface includes PackML version 3 and has an 8-axes servo drive system and comes with an IP56 rating.

“We are very excited as the Elite is a complement to our wrap around cartoning range. It is not released on the market yet but it comes with higher speeds and looks slightly different to the C150 with greater functionality and modular infeeds,” added Newman.
