Watt’s SA (a Chile-based processor of meats, pastas, juices, and other food and beverage products for international customers) has Manufacturing Planning software from JDA Software Group to bring together and streamline forecasting, production, distribution, and inventory.
Global reach
Watt's SA produces for Chilean markets; however, its products (including speciality wines) also are exported to 30 other countries. The company jumped into the Asian market six years ago, with a commercial office in Shanghai and distribution network throughout China.
Edgard Tepper, Watt’s vice president of logistics, told FoodProductionDaily the JDA team worked with the processor’s staff to ensure its production and operational efficiency needs were met.
“The team understood our market and business requirements and provided a tailor-made proposal that addressed all our needs,” he said. “These solutions will give us the competitive advantage we need to drive improved profitability and increased customer satisfaction.”
Operational efficiency
According to the manufacturer, the software is intended to boost accuracy of ordering forecast and service levels, and to optimize production plans based on available raw materials, packaging, cost, and other variables.
The software consists of different modules. The Sales and Operation Planning component will assist in decision making surrounding forecasting and production, Inventory Optimization facilitates determining optimal inventory levels for finished products as well as raw materials, and Space Planning streamlines top-level category plans.
Julian Labra, chief information officer of Watt’s, said prior to selecting the software, they polled customers in South and North America.
“We were impressed by the results and positive feedback they all shared,” he said. “Additionally, the fact that JDA has had an office in Santiago, Chile for many years gives us added comfort they are committed to the country and the region.”
