Movable feast: Cambridge open conveyor for meat and poultry

The DuraFlex Edge open-design conveyor belt is designed for lean, clean meat and poultry processing.

Cambridge Engineered Solutions has expanded the top width of its Duraflex Edge conveyor belt from 60 inches to 156 inches. The belts can be configured to make slight turns and be fitted for ‘Y’ conveyors commonly used in meat and poultry environments.

Equipment durability

Skip Messick, head engineer for Cambridge Engineered Solutions, told FoodProductionDaily the mechanical belt conveyor measures up well against other flex-style belts on the market.

When tested against a competitor’s flex‐style belt, Duraflex Edge lasted up to 39 times longer without distortion or breakage,” he said.

The belt can be used in lines breading or frying meat and poultry products. The configuration bends with a hinge in both directions, which reportedly eliminates friction and metal fatigue and leads to proper tracking.

Freeing debris

The belt is self-cleaning, pushing out jammed food residue as the belt turns on the conveyor. The design feature is said to lead to reduced downtime, because operators don’t have to stop the line to clear out contamination or cleaning.

Other features include quick splice time, another feature said to reduce maintenance. The belt also reportedly has a high carrying capacity and tight transfer capability.

Additionally, the Duraflex Edge belt handles heavier loads than typical light-duty conveyor belts, according to the company.
