Berry Plastics Group, which specializes in providing containers for consumer packaged goods, has received supplier awards from two of its largest food-field customers. The company attained the Spirit of Excellence Award from Hormel Foods; it also received three STAR Supplier Awards from Yum Brands.
Customer collaboration
Bill Norman, president of the Rigid Open Top division of Berry Plastics, told FoodProductionDaily the company focuses on working closely with its customers, communicating constantly through the packaging creation process to ensure their goals are met.
“At Berry Plastics we are committed to partnering with our customers to gain in-depth insight of their brand and their consumers’ characteristics,” he said. “We then apply this knowledge to our design process so we can consistently be a solutions provider to our customers.”
Brand owner partnerships
Hormel Foods reportedly gave Berry Plastics the Spirit of Excellence for quality, delivery, service, and support related to the product packaging created for various Hormel Foods brands. Projects Berry Plastics executed for the brand owner included a range of lines, including Farmer John, Kids Kitchen, La Victoria, Chi Chi’s Salsa, Wholly Guacamole, Jennie-O, and Skippy Peanut Butter.
Yum Brands (which owns Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and KFC) recognized Berry Plastics with three separate Supplier Tracking Assessment and Recognition (STAR) awards. All three STAR awards were related to the KFC Go Cup package, launched in July 2013, which Berry Plastics collaboratively designed and developed.
According to Yum Brands, STAR is a rigorous audit system that sets and monitors standards for suppliers. The three awards include awards for packaging production, innovation, and overall performance.
