Evolving customer demands are pushing food firms and packaging partners to step up the complexity and variety of packaging, especially in the flexible arena. Production equipment must be flexible enough to keep up with the shifting tides, and handle the packaging variety customers want.
Lacy Cooper, marketing coordinator for HayssenSandiacre, spoke with FoodProductionDaily on the changing demands placed on food packaging, how companies can harness technology that keeps up, and the machines on display in the company's Interpack booth.
What concerns are customers in the food arena approaching you with?
Customers want easy changeovers and equipment that is future-proof. Our Novus VFFS is a single bagger, capable of making a pillow bag, doy pouch, quad bag, with or without recloseable; this allows food marketers to come up with new package designs and the VFFS equipment is already in place to meet those demands.
All of our VFFS and HFFS lines have icon-based , intuitive control panels that make for simple and fast changeovers.
What technologies and markets is HayssenSandiacre focusing on?
We focus on technologies that minimize film waste, reduce energy costs, easy changeovers, and we do it without sacrificing the speed and highest quality seals that HayssenSandiacre is known for. HayssenSandiacre is well-established as a “bagger” company, but we also have a variety of flow wrapper solutions that are widely used in bakery, wipes, and confectionery packaging.
We take a very unique approach and apply our experience from more than 50,000 machines sold to analyze solutions that work to optimize the packaging line. The total value we provide is about the people, the commitment, the relationship, the technical design and the lifetime of outstanding support bundled with the competitive positioning we offer.
Perhaps that is why we have been the beneficiary of so much repeat business from multi-national companies.
Why is Interpack an important show?
We are growing at a rapid pace and our sales outside of the U.S. have increased each year. Interpack gives us an opportunity to showcase our European manufacturing presence with our machinery manufacturing bases in the UK and Italy.
Interpack is the venue to showcase the latest in packaging technologies. As part of the Barry-Wehmiller group, Interpack offers us the opportunity to demonstrate how we work within our network to offer complete packaging solutions.
What are some of the machines and technologies you’ll be showing?
We will showcase the latest NOVUS Continuous Motion VFFS Bagger. The NOVUS combines high-speed and rapid tool-less changeover to produce high-quality stand-up pouches; it is extremely flexible and runs Quad Seal and Doy Packs with or without recloseable features with easy changeover to high-speed pillow.
The slim-line footprint saves on manufacturing space while the Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PLC is user-friendly for machine operators.
HayssenSandiacre is exhibiting its packaging technologies at Interpack, taking place May 8-14 in Dusseldorf, Germany. The conference and exhibition focuses on packaging equipment and technology for food firms, beverage companies, and other industries.
