Preco sets laser focus on flexible packaging

With consumer demand for easy-open and reclosable food packages increasing, Preco offers laser scoring and perforating technology designed to cost-effectively add such convenience features.

Terry Olson, marketing manager for Preco, told FoodProductionDaily the company was among the first to employ industrial layers to modify and enhance flexible packaging. Additionally, she said, the company strives to provide customers in the food industry and other markets the latest packaging products.

We continually expand our contract service capabilities and laser systems technology to meet the needs of the growing marketing for convenient easy-open, breathable, and microwave venting packaging applications,” she said.

Global presence

Preco, a Wisconsin-based company, services food firms and packaging partners around the globe. According to Olson, the show provides the company the opportunity to network with and support clients outside the US.

It is important for Preco to exhibit at Interpack to support our European customers, and to introduce laser technology to international prospects, all of who are looking for better ways to provide their customers with packaging features,” she said.

Increased services

Preco, which specializes in toll converting flexible packaging, upgraded its roll-handling capabilities earlier this year. The company can produce its web-direction AcuTear laser scoring for easy-opening packs and AcuBreathe high-speed perforating in web widths up to 50 inches wide.

The firm also provides laser scoring and perforation on smaller rolls. Later in 2014, the company will offer web-direction scoring on rolls up to 63 inches.

Matt Lackner, key account manager for flexible packaging at Preco, said the changes are in response to customer demands.

We were being challenged by our customer base to increase the range of our capabilities, so Preco accepted the challenge,” he said. “This is already paying dividends, as we have been able to close substantial new business as a result of this offering.”

Preco is scheduled to exhibit at Interpack (scheduled May 8-14 in Dusseldorf, Germany) in stand 12/E02.
