Sirane debuts ‘revolutionary’ nylon 210°c oven bag
Mark Lingard, marketing executive, Sirane, told FoodProductionDaily.com its ‘siralon’ material can be cooked up to 210°c and looks better than other ovenable materials.
“Nylon is a far superior product for roasting,” he said. “It’s a product a lot of retailers would like to use, but there are the production constraints of not being able to flow wrap.

“The materials you can use as flow wrap have not been great for the oven,” he added.
“Traditionally people have used polyester, but as a product for cooking in the oven it’s only ‘ok.’ It’s not good for high temperatures and it doesn’t look great.”
Flow wrapping covers products with a film or bag and seals the ends.
Siralon can be flow wrapped because it is made from a recently developed blend of nylon. It can be printed and branded, and can be clear or coloured. The product is available in different microns, on the reel, and is used for bags and films.
Two versions of the material have been launched. Siralon 10 can be cooked up for 180°c and its uses include microwave steaming and boil in the bag.
Siralon 21 is a stronger film that can be used in both the microwave and oven up to 210°c. This makes it suitable for cooking fillets or items of meat, poultry or fish.
Meat and fish
“Siralon has everything – it can be flow-wrapped, it can be vac-packed, it is strong, it offers a great shelf-life barrier, and the results when cooked are succulent, moist meat,” said Jeremy Haydn-Davies, sales director, Sirane.
“It means poultry, meat or fish can be flow-wrapped in packaging that the consumer can take home and put in the oven – it opens up a whole host of retail possibilities,” he added.
“Quality packaging for oven roasting, that could be heat-sealed on a flow-wrapping machine, hasn’t been possible up until now.”
