Eagle Packaging to launch stand-up pouch loader

Eagle Packaging is teaming up with its sister company, WeighPack Systems to bring to market automatically loading stand-up pouches into trays and cases.

The food packaging machine manufacturer belongs to The Paxiom Group which through its subsidiaries makes filling machines, automatic bagging machines, case and tray formers, conveyors and robotic palletizers.

Boxxer case loader

Anthony Del Viscio, vice president sales, Eagle Packaging Machinery, told FoodProductionDaily.com it recently launched a Boxxer case erector loader sealer system that combines case erecting and product loading into one fully automated system to reduce labor costs but it is now looking to expand on this.

Clients include Brown & Haley, Brulin, Coastal Wire and Lafitte Frozen Foods.

We are moving into automatically loading stand-up pouches into trays or cases. Teaming up with our sister company WeighPack, we can offer primary packaging into pouches and secondary packaging into cases,” said Del Viscio.

We launched the Boxxer following feedback from our customers for a compact unit that would fit in to a limited space.”

The machinery targets food and beverage manufacturers that ship products in corrugated packages.

Pallet-ready package

A typical case or tray packing line needs multiple machines to form, pack and seal cases or trays added Del Viscio, but Eagle’s case/tray packing system all-in-one takes a flat blank and discharges a shelf or pallet-ready package.

He said the system is enclosed in a heavy duty tubular frame that can produce up to 15 cases per minute weighing up to 50 lbs.

The machine can be built for tuck, tape, or glue applications and features quick-size changeover.

The tray packing system allows customers to reduce cost on each package by using flat die-cut tray blanks,” said Del Viscio.

Die cuts

Die cuts save money because the end user is adding value by gluing and forming the package. For instance, with regular RSC & HSC style cases (regular shipping boxes with flaps on the top and bottom that fold), more board is used and they are pre-glued by the corrugator for which there is a charge.”

He added, if the tray is a fold and tuck type, the automatic former allows staff to avoid using their hands to put trays together.

These repetitive motions cause carpal tunnel and worker’s compensation claims that can be avoided by automation,” he said.

WeighPack is exhibiting at the Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, California, US from March 7-9, 2014.
