Full PHA capacity by Q2 2014, says Meredian

Full capacity will be achieved by the second quarter of 2014, according to Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) producer Meredian.

The firm announced at K Show in Dusseldorf that they would provide another four million lbs. to complete joint development activities while launching commercial applications in mid-2014.

“Our team has worked tirelessly to design, install and deliver developmental quantities of PHA from our pilot facility for client selected high value applications,” said S. Blake Lindsey, president, Meredian.

“This timing aligns perfectly as we come on line with the Bainbridge facility and optimize our PHA production systems.”

PHA is a polymer derived naturally through fermentation of sustainably produced, renewable plant derived oils which creates completely biodegradable bioplastics.

“Having the largest PHA production facility in the world, Meredian will produce over 30,000 tons of PHA per year at the Bainbridge facility,” said Michael Smith, VP manufacturing and engineering, Meredian.

“Engineering plans are now completed for ‘right sized’ Meredian facilities to be placed globally to best serve our customers. The company expects multiple projects to be underway simultaneously in order to meet the demand of our customers.”
