The JV’s first ingredient for the US food market, Zemea USP Propanediol is being marketed as a sustainable replacement for petroleum-based propylene glycol or glycerin in multiple food and beverage applications.
Made from glucose (from corn) via a fermentation process, Zemea USP Propanediol boasts unique humectancy, preservative effects, solubility and taste properties, claim the firms.
Made in Loudon, Tenn, Zemea USP is certified Kosher and Halal certified and has received a letter of no-objection from the FDA to its GRAS (generally recognized as safe) determination. It is also certified GRAS by the Flavor & Extracts Manufacturers Association (FEMA).
