Chris Ritmeyer of analytical firm IPS Testing is partnering with Paul Fowler of the Wisconsin Institute for Sustainable Technology (WIST) to present a session. The two will present information on marketing claims and product differentiation with recyclability, repulpability and compostability.
Reitmeyer said the October 22conference (at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point) stands to expand sustainability knowledge for professionals involved in food packaging.
“We've learned a lot about what it takes to develop sustainable packaging materials through our hands-on testing," he said.
Focal Point 2013 also will hone in on opportunities and obstacles for packaging and converting professionals. Programming will look at manufacturing, converting, end-use, and regulatory concerns in flexible and rigid plastics, paper board and specialty paper.
Discussion topics will cover developments in compostable packaging; recent regulations on packaging for food contact; extended producer responsibility; current developments in plastic packaging; and alternative end-of-life management options such as anaerobic digestion.
