Italy-based StampaSud’s Smart Lab labelling division has created StampaTech. The technology uses intelligent labels to allow food firms and consumers to access a broad range of information, including marketing materials, product origin, freshness indications and more.
Easy access
StampaSud commercial/R&D director Antony Calo told FoodProductionDaily.com that StampaTech offers food firms and packaging partners a unique way to introduce smart packaging features.
“We wanted something that allowed digital systems to work on a platform of print,” he said. “There was currently nothing in the market that had the ability to do this, so we built one ourselves.”
Information rich
The product enables food, beverage, cosmetics and other types of products to be monitored for quality and authenticity. Manufacturers can trace the whereabouts of products with a click, access technical information, detect counterfeiting, effect recalls, generate analytical reports and more.
According to Calo, the technology is more affordable, easier to navigate and is more sustainable than RFID or security tagging solutions. Additionally, he pointed out that the StampaTech offers deeper interactive capability than NFC or QR codes but can be incorporated along with those technologies if desired.
Brand owners might be interested in the technology due to the ability to monitor client interest and satisfaction, promote social sharing and interaction, engage cloud services and analysis, and more.
Calo said the emerging technology will be available to manufacturing and branding organizations who register before 2014. Visit the company’s website here for more information.
