Global demand for seafood is on the rise. According to intelligence firm C&M Research, worldwide sales of seafood will climb to $430 billion USD by 2018. In order to reach far-reaching consumers and meet demand for convenience foods, processors and packaging companies will need to tap into innovative packaging.
Seafood site
UK-based packaging design and material company Sirane has launched Thinking-Seafood.com. The website is geared toward fish and seafood professionals looking to learn more about packaging options.
Sirane sales director Jeremy Haydn-Davies said the site showcases a broad range of items of use to fish companies and retail brand owners.
“Anyone involved in seafood and who is looking to add genuine value to their products should take a look at the new website and find out what we can offer,” he said.
Cooking options
One recent product introduction profiled is the Sira-Cook Barbecue Bag. The ovenable bag enables consumers to throw seasoned pieces of fish directly onto their grill, with a clear top panel giving a view of the product and cooking progress.
The site also looks at the firm’s absorbent liners for transporting fish. The Dri-Fresh Sea-Fresh liners reportedly absorb melting ice and juices during transport, preventing spillage and reducing odor.
Helping fuel consumer interest in convenient meal products, Sirane has a number of microwavable packaging items. The Sira-Cook Smart Release is a dual-compartment bag that enables product and sauce to be kept separate until after the fish is cooked.
