Flexible packaging plant certified safe
The Plascon facility in Traverse City, Michigan recently achieved Global Food Safety Certification from the British Retail Consortium. The designation is widely used by suppliers and retailers to gauge quality, safety, operational criteria and manufacturer fulfilment of legal obligations.
Plascon manufacturers various products for food processing, bulk packaging and foodservice. Its offerings include food-grade film, bags and liners. The certification covers its manufacturing, converting and storing of flexible packaging products for food-contact applications.
Certification priority
Plascon Group, like many global packaging providers, puts significant stock in the BRC certification. The company has an internal team dedicating to obtaining the designation for its facilities.
According to Plascon COO Andrew Robitshek, Plascon’s BRC Certification team focuses on standards, procedures and quality improvement necessary to pass muster.
“Maintaining the standard requires buy-in from everyone in our organization. Our employees worked very hard to make this happen,” he said, adding that the certification “shows current and prospective customers that we are a reliable company committed to producing safe, high quality food packaging.”
According to company representatives, achieving certification from the BRC sends a message to customers that the certified company hits the mark in areas critical to the food industry. The certification body ensures that product quality, safety and regulatory compliance practices are monitored and continually approved at the facility.
