Flexible packaging gets thumbs up from Brits
Plascon manufactures films, bags and liners for food processing, bulk packaging and foodservice firms. BRC is a global food safety/quality certification program recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative.
After an intensive auditing process, the facility attained the certification, which covers manufacturing, conversion and warehousing of food-contact flexible packaging. The company’s UK facility also has been certified as a warehousing facility.
Multiple benefits
Dan Brumm, quality manager for Plascon, said BRC certification has benefited the packaging company and its food industry clients.
“The detailed process required to achieve certification to the BRC Standard, has made Plascon a better supplier to all of our customers,” he said.
Because BRC global standards are recognized by suppliers, retailers and others in many countries, Plascon made certification a priority.
“We put together a team that focuses on standards, procedures and quality improvement to achieve BRC certification,” said Andrew Robitshek, Plascon Group COO. “However, maintaining the standard requires buy-in from everyone in our organization. Our employees worked very hard to make this happen.”
Safety standards
Plascon representatives indicate the drive to attain BRC certification originated from European customers; however, Robitshek said, the certification and the quality/safety standards it demonstrates will benefit customers and partners everywhere.
BRC certification indicates that a company meets or exceeds the agency’s quality and safety standards. Certified companies are required to monitor and continually improve quality and safety practices, and keep current with all applicable laws and regulations.
