Edible oil gets fresh closures courtesy of Bericap

Bericap is offering closures for bottles of edible oil, dressings and sauces, aimed at a range of firms, including smaller companies that may have problems switching to lightweight bottle necks.

The company has already launched the EV 28/26 closure for bottles designed with PCO 1881 lightweight bottle necks, which it claimed suited businesses "looking to rationalise their bottle portfolio and bundle their preform purchase power by concentrating on one neck size".

They were also designed for firms that could not access Bericap's existing neck sizes within their local markets, as they were widely available internationally, it added. It is also trialling other closures for standardised necks.

'Tamper evidence feature'

"The EV 28 [mm]/26 [mm] snap-on closure is equipped with a screw closure to open the bottle and the content is protected with a membrane as a tamper evidence feature," stated Bericap.

"As a standard feature the screw cap is designed with special dripless function to avoid spillage of the closure and bottle after pouring and can be supplied with or without a flow regulator."

Switch to lighter weight necks

The new closures follow the switch that many food processors made from standard 29/21 bottles to lighter weight 26/21 necks in 2010, driven by a desire to save on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resin and hence costs.

Prior to that, plastic closures had to fit glass as well as PET bottles, while Bericap's latest offerings are aimed at the lightweight PET bottle necks, it said.

Not only could they be used for bottles containing edible oils, dressings and sauces, but they could also be used for syrup bottles, it added.
