The Flowscale is designed for high volume weighing of pelagic species, whitefish and salmon and can weigh up to 100 tonnes of product an hour in a continuous flow, Marel claims.
It was ideal for measuring total fish catches coming from a boat into a processing factory, as well as for measuring the total amount of food material in and out of a specific process, the company said.
The gadget has been created to maintain product quality by handling products softly and gently, replacing more traditional methods such as hopper-scale weighing.
Similar to a water or electricity meter
It operates similarly to a water or electricity meter, continuously accumulating the weight of a product moving across it, displaying this data on a sealed, M2200 terminal, and then registering the final weight for each lot.
The self-contained belt weigher is Weights & Measures approved for commercial use and fully certified with EU, International Organisation of Legal Metrology and US National Type Evaluation Programme approvals. This fulfills legal requirements, which widely mandate fish processors to have an approved, in-weighing process for raw materials.
The system is fully compatible with Marel's production management software Innova, which enables processors to monitor and control the flow of material in real time.
Innova can also collect flow information and generate reports according to need. The system includes Alibi memory storage that can be cross-referenced with Innova reports for validation purposes and legal requirements.
