Snyder’s-Lance to cut costs and consolidate with Canadian plant closure

US snack firm Snyder’s-Lance said it will close a Canadian facility to cut costs and consolidate production.

The closure of the Cambridge plant in Ontario will be effective from May 17 this year.

“Snyder’s-Lance conducted a comprehensive review of current manufacturing facilities including capacity, capabilities and distribution costs to key markets. Based on that review, management has decided to close the Cambridge facility in order to reduce operating costs while consolidating production into other existing manufacturing sites,” the firm said.

Associates impacted will be provided with severance and outplacement benefits as well as the opportunity to be considered for jobs that may exist in other Snyder’s-Lance facilities, it added.

The news of the closure comes just a couple of weeks after the snack firm released its 2012 full-year results and revealed plans to build a new research and development (R&D) center within the next month.
