Zip-Pak upgrades bag resealing potential

Zip-Pak has upgraded its bag resealing offering with the launch of Vector, a new concept designed to offer greater protection for food and homecare products against picking up moisture and getting stale.

Resealing strips for a range of food and non-food products already existed, Kai Schildwachter, European sales manager for the bag sealing firm, told FoodProductionDaily.com at FachPack trade show in Nuremberg, Germany.

However, they were fiddly for consumers to use and often did not seal packs perfectly, depending on the exact alignment of two opposing rib and groove strips.

By contrast, the new Vector design involved a series of rib and groove lines on the inside of packets, meaning shoppers could reseal them much more easily without worrying about precise alignment.

It could be used to replace standard strips for products ranging from cereals, crisps and nuts to washing powder, said Schildwachter.

Minimum adjustments

Conventional packaging closures could incorporate Vector seals into packs with only minimum adjustments, he added.

They could also be twinned with Zip-Pak’s Zip360 wide mouth pack format to deliver Vector closures running around the whole of the top of a pack, the company said.

Commenting on the launch of Vector, Robert Hogan, director, global marketing, at Zip-Pak, said: “At Zip-Pak, we recognize the need to balance innovation and practicality.”

Broad range of products

“Our new Vector resealable matrix will address the industry’s need for a self-sealing, easy-to-use closure that can be rapidly incorporated into the manufacturing lines of brand owners, retailers, and converters for a broad range of products.”

Zip-Pak showcased Vector alongside its existing Pour & Lok closure, which allows a product to be poured from the side gusset of a package. That made it suitable for a range of dry goods in large format pouches, the firm said.

Unique to Zip-Pak and its machinery partners, Pour & Lok can be pre-applied using its Inno-Lok equipment and could run on standard vertical form fill seal machines with a simple side gusset modification.
