Meat producers failing to pack a packaging punch

Packaging has a key role to play in helping meat develop from a commodity product into something more sophisticated, said Andrew Streeter of Pack-Track Datamonitor.

The leading analyst, speaking at FoodProductionDaily.com’s Meat Technology conference at Anuga FoodTec in Cologne, said the meat industry was not fully utilising the potential of innovative and creative packaging to enhance its products.

Improved easy-opening features, as well as more imaginative graphics and pack shaping were just some of the factors that meat producers should consider employing, he added.

Building in convenience was key, said the director and research fellow.

“Perhaps if meat producers saw packaging as a creative medium rather than just a technical one, they could grasp more opportunities” said Streeter
