Mislabeled milk allergen sparks US cream puff recall

US firm Crème Curls Bakery has recalled some of its vanilla cream puff products because the source of sodium caseinate, a milk derivative, is not labelled on the product, putting people with milk allergies at risk.

The company has recalled 19.4 ounce cartons of Simply Enjoy Vanilla cream puffs and 13.2 ounce cartons of Vanilla Cream Puffs in the US

Although sodium caseinate was present on the ingredients list the source of this ingredient was not made clear.

The recall was initiated after a person with a milk allergy consumed the product and suffered an allergic reaction.

Paul Bierling, Crème Curls executive vice president said: "We are working closely with the Food and Drug Administration and are taking every step possible to ensure that any product that has not yet been consumed is removed from store shelves as quickly as possible."
