The LumiLiner, which is suitable for use in the food packaging industry, will offer the industry tear resistance, superior printability as well as being lightweight – with a basis weight of just 90g/m2 alternative, said the company.
The product, which will be produced at the company’s Uetersen facility in Germany, also contains no optical brighteners.
Tailor-made for industry
Stora Enso Speciality Papers business development manager Marcus Weise told FoodProductionDaily.com that through the collaboration it was able to identify industry-desired properties.
“It was a joint development with some of our customers in the corrugated industry. This is really tailor-made for the corrugated industry.”
“It is tear resistant, it is lightweight, its printability provides for good print - these are the key advantages.”
“It can be used for any application, it can be food. We don’t limit the end use. It can be used with anything,” Weise added.
Good ink hold-out
According to the company, the one-sided coated paper development “combines the softness of lightweight paper with the bulk and tear-resistance of significantly higher weight paper.”
The product also features outstanding flatness, excellent smoothness and good ink holdout, which support vibrant graphic in corrugated board printing, the company added.
“One of the special features of LumiLiner is its adhesion-friendly reverse side, which permits economical application of adhesive and fast drying to help speed up automated lamination processes.”
“At the same time, this also prevents the adhesive from penetrating the material and thus supports the flatness of the final product,” Stora Enso said.
