Multivac software puts packaging line printers on single network

Faster changeover times and a reduction in input errors are benefits claimed by Multivac for its new software that connects printers from different packaging lines to a single network.

The company said its browser-based PrintingPoint technology means print layouts and data for different products and orders can now be sent from one central computer to a host of line printers.

"Up to now the printers in individual packaging lines have generally been isolated applications,” said sales manager Robert Vollenkemper. “For this reason user companies require an input terminal for each line with the corresponding software.”

This means that operators have to input changes manually for new batches. The firm said that errors can occur - particularly if different printer types and input templates are being used.

Mutivac said its system is customised to the client’s needs and the printer network linked to their database of product management system. Thermal transfer printers can also be networked.
