‘Extraordinary’ meat slicer poised for international launch

High output, a compact footprint and a design that minimises changeover times are benefits claimed for a newly upgraded meat slicer from Marel UK.

The company said its latest AEW Delford Polyslicer 1000 is versatile and easy to use, possessing “extraordinary capabilities” that set it apart from many other slicers in its class.

“Quick, assisted loading and a simple to adjust slicing head combine with a host of advanced features and options to deliver high output, product variety and versatility at an affordable price”, said Marel.

The equipment has an involute blade for high-speed slicing and an aperture that can handle three logs of product at the same time. It produces well-defined stacks, shingles or shaved products, said the company. The Polyslicer 1000 offers the flexibility to slice a wide range of cooked meats, bacon and natural products - with the option of an orbital blade for accurate slicing of delicate or fragile foods such as cheese, or larger diameter products.

The system’s 100 separate programmes enhance fast product changeover, enable a choice of pack presentation formats, and offer a pulsed product feed for extra thick slices. A slice denial feature prevents sliver slices and product wastage, said Marel.

Meeting industry needs

Two years in development, the system’s high output capacity combined with its compact size means it will appeal to meat processors across the board, Marel marketing consultant Terry Starkey told FoodproductionDaily.com.

“Processors are under huge pressure from retailers to be able to react quickly to changes in demand for products,” he added. “These are often small to medium-sized processors of specialist hams, cooked meats and cheeses that have to be able to flexible enough to respond to retailers’ needs. We believe this system provides this capability.”

It is also suitable for contract cutters who supply major retailers with their own brand packs and for big processors with high volume outputs, said Starkey.

“This is a machine with a very compact footprint for its output capacity – it really punches above its weight,” added the consultant. “We believe the Polyslicer 1000 overcomes production restrictions that may be a factor with ordinary slicers.”

The machine is made of stainless steel for low maintenance, reliability and ease of cleaning. All contact parts can be removed to maximise hygiene.

Stand Alone or Integrated System

The Polyslicer 1000 can operate as a stand alone machine or be integrated with a range of manual, fixed or random weight production lines. It is supplied complete with twin jump conveyor and available with load assist side table and integral conveyor with 3.2m outfeed, said Marel.

The company confirmed the system would be fully launched to the international food industry at IFFA, which will take place next month in Frankfurt.
