Berry Plastics buys Danish packaging company

Berry Plastics Corp announced its takeover of Danish company Superfos Packaging for around $82m (€55m).

The US company said it was expecting to complete the deal by mid February 2010 and would fund the buyout using cash or credit.

Superfos Packaging, based in Taastrup, Denmark, produces injection moulded plastic rigid open top containers and other plastic packaging products for a range of sectors including the food industry. It has one plant in the US state of Maryland which had 2008 annual net sales of $46.8m and approximately 180 employees.

Adam Unfried, president of Berry’s rigid open top division, said: “The acquisition of Superfos Packaging is an excellent opportunity for Berry to continue the execution of our strategic plan by combining with a highly respected packaging company in the rigid plastic packaging marketplace.”
