New food label applicator delivers improved versatility at less cost

Versatile all round labeling performance at lower cost are the benefits claimed for the AEW Delford MPL80 label applicator from the UK-based Marel Food Systems.

A company spokesperson told FoodProductionDaily.com: “It allows for top label application or “C” label application using one applicator without any change parts. The operator loads only a different label stock, adjusts applicator height and guides to suit new package and selects the correct PLU/SKU (Pin Look up Code/Stock Keeping Unit).”

The benefits are a reduction in line length and lower capital outlay because one unit undertakes top label and C label application, said the spokesperson.

Printing capabilities

The MPL80 has full printing capabilities and combines the latest software technology with leading design and manufacture to provide a highly versatile labeling system, claims the company.

The MPL80 can operate at speeds of up to 80 packs per minute (ppm) and handles all popular tray sizes. It features non-contact, height adjustable label application and a high capacity label reel which are said to allow long production runs without downtime.

The enhanced software of the MPL80 applicator simplifies machine programming while the label Comformat memory, which exceeds 1,000, is claimed to minimise label changeover.

Typical applications include MAP trays containing poultry and red meat but supermarkets are adding additional requirements such as clam shells for bakery products and blister packs, said the company.

Maximum label size is 250mm x 110mm. The minimum label width is 65mm.

Thermal transfer

The applicator is available with a choice of chemi-thermal or thermal transfer print options. Both have 12 dot/mm high resolution printing.

“Delivering excellent print and layout performance with complete layout flexibility, the MPL80 can accommodate a wide variety of label shapes and sizes. And it has a huge range of font styles and barcodes and extensive independent label fields,” said the company.

Maximum label size is 250mm x 110mm. The minimum label width is 65mm.

The applicator requires a 110V or 230V single phase electrical supply.

The MPL80 has been designed to operate as a stand-alone label applicator or integrated into an AEW Delford Weigh Price Labelling System.

The applicator is available worldwide and costs between ₤24,000 – 31,000; precise prices depend on specification.
