Recirculating bulk bag filler moves free and non-free flowing material

Full mobility and even distribution of powder and bulk coatings onto food products are claims made for a bulk bag filler by manufacturers Flexicon.

The system is positioned so that a wire conveyor belt loaded with items to be coated passes above the unit’s lower collection hopper, as a uniform curtain of the coating material descends from the upper discharge hopper.

Free and non-free flowing materials

Material is fed into the intake adaptor of a side-mounted flexible screw conveyor that moves it along a 75-degree incline onto a horizontal conveyor positioned above a longitudinal discharge hopper. This has multiple discharge ports to distribute material across the length of the discharge hopper and starts and stops automatically to maintain the hopper’s preset fill level. A small-diameter rotating agitator along the bottom of the hopper aids uniform discharge through an adjustable screen that spans a gap along the hopper bottom, said Flexicon statement.

A company spokesman added: “The conveyors employed are able to move both free- and non-free-flowing materials, including products that pack, cake, smear or degrade, with no separation of blended products such as seed mixes and spice blends, regardless of disparities in bulk density or particle size.”

Stainless steel

The system has an all-stainless steel construction, including motors and vibrators, and quick-disconnect fittings, to enable easy and quick wash-down.

The machine is equipped with fill head height adjustment to accommodate all popular bag sizes, as well as an inflatable cuff to seal the bag inlet spout. It also promotes dust-free air displacement during filling thanks to its feed chute vent port, said the firm.
