New processing kit boosts formulation and cuts costs

Improved formation of meat and seafood products, greater product consistency, easier maintenance and lower costs are the benefits claimed for a new processing system from cryogenics provider Air Products and mixer and mixer-grinder specialist Weiler.

The new system, which mates Air Products’ Freshline Liquid Nitrogen Injection Solution with Weiler’s mixer and mixer-grinder technology, is capable of fully integrated food mixing, grinding and cooling, according to Emma Guthrie, Air Products’ marketing manager.

Standardisation

“Combining the two company’s technologies exploits the synergies of both to produce food products with a higher degree of standardization,” Guthrie told FoodProductionDaily.com. “The improved standardization makes it easier to form food products and the Liquid Nitrogen Injection Solution guards against bacterial growth,” she added.

The new joint offering allows products to be quickly blended into a homogenous mix while being cooled consistently and rapidly using the LIN-IS’s cryogenic technology, said Guthrie.

Both the Freshline LIN-IS and Weiler’s mixer-grinders are designed to the latest hygienic standards and can be connected to a CIP (Clean-In-Place) system. Operation, cleaning and maintenance are simplified through full software integration.

Processing applications

The combined equipment is said to have applications across a wide range of food processing applications including red meat, poultry, fish, seafood and vegetable products.

Uwe Rosenbaum, Air Products’ new business development manager food, food said: “Customers are placing increasing emphasis on productivity. The combined offering of Air Products’ Freshline LIN-IS and Weiler’s mixer-grinder technology can improve quality and achieve valuable cost-savings.

Weiler’s technology provides efficient mixing, while LIN-IS affords optimum control of the chilling.”

Dave Stone, Weiler’s general manager commented: “With Air Products’ support, we look forward to...optimising grinding, mixing and cooling performance. We can now respond to some of the most difficult technical and processing challenges, resulting in a more efficient and cost-effective manufacturing process and an improved bottom line for our customers.”

One system has already been sold to a meat processing company in the European market.

Further new product developments are expected from the collaboration between Air Products and Weiler, Guthrie confirmed. Prices depend on specifications.
